Hon. Konris Maynard Names 17 Sites, Prioritizes 9 for Well Drilling

Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities, and Domestic Transport, Hon. Konris Maynard, revealed that plans are progressing for the exploration of 17 newly identified potential drill sites, following a hydrogeological survey using airborne technology.

Speaking in Parliament during the 2026 Budget Debate, Minister Maynard said:

“We have successfully completed a drone-based semi-airborne hydrogeological survey that has identified 17 new potential well sites.”

Nine of the seventeen sites have been prioritized for drilling in various locations around the island.

Referring to the proposed budget allocation for related activities, Minister Maynard said:

“Eight million dollars have been identified for new well drilling in order to close the demand supply gap in the northwestern side of the island and [bring] the remaining 30% of households to 24 hour service.”

This development follows the WSD’s two-pronged approach to water management, consisting of finding and exploiting new groundwater sources and investing in desalination.
